Whitney/Strong Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions

Whitney/Strong is committed to protecting your privacy.  The term “Whitney/Strong,” “we,” “our,” and “us” includes WhitneyStrong, Inc. and Whitney/Strong Legislative Fund, Inc. This Privacy Policy explains how Whitney/Strong may:

  • collect,

  • use, and

  • disclose

information we obtain through Whitney/Strong Products and Services.

“Whitney/Strong Product and Services” include Whitney/Strong websites, social media sites and any related products, mobile applications or Internet services under Whitney/Strong’s control, whether partial or otherwise, in connection with providing such services. 

“Personal Information” means information that alone or in combination with other information may be used to readily identify, contact, or locate you or other members of your organization, such as: name, address, birth date, email address, account number or phone number. We do not consider Personal Information to include information that has been aggregated or anonymized so that it does not allow a third party to easily identify a specific individual or applicant.  In accordance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Whitney/Strong does not knowingly collect Personal Information from anyone under the age of 13.

Data Collection

Use of Whitney/Strong Products and Services. We collect information, including Personal Information, that you provide to us when you use Whitney/Strong Products and Services, make a donation, make a purchase, volunteer, send us a message, complete surveys or submit an inquiry to us. We also collect user information, such as anonymous information about your usage statistics, when you use Whitney/Strong Products and Services.

Cookies, Automatic Data Collection, and Related Technologies. Whitney/Strong Products and Services collect and store information that is generated automatically as you use it, including your preferences and anonymous usage statistics.

When you visit websites and services provided by Whitney/Strong, we and our third-party service providers may receive and record information in our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, cookies and similar technology. Cookies are small text files placed in visitors’ computer browsers to store their preferences. Most browsers allow you to block and delete cookies. However, if you do that, Whitney/Strong Products and Services may not work properly.

By using Whitney/Strong Products and Services, you are authorizing us to gather, parse, and retain data related to the provision of Whitney/Strong Products and Services.

Data Usage Policy

Whitney/Strong takes seriously our responsibility to prevent any misuse of data. We believe that part of this responsibility is to communicate the following specific policies for use of the data we collect:

  • Whitney/Strong may collect your name, birth date, email address, address, phone number, state, zip code, any communications with Whitney/Strong and any other information provided to Whitney/Strong through a Whitney/Strong affiliated website, survey or form.

  • Email, social media, or website comments may be used in promotional materials but no identifying names or email information will be shared unless written permission in obtained in advance.  

  • By donating to Whitney/Strong, you grant us permission to publish your name, in the form of a list of supporters but your contact information will not be shared publicly or with any other organizations.  If you request that we keep a donation anonymous, we will not disclose your name or other personal information in connection with your anonymous donation.

  • Aggregate Data.  We may anonymize and aggregate data collected through Whitney/Strong Products and Services and use it for any purpose. In some instances, we may use detailed data to develop analyses, reports, presentations, and policy papers available to the general public. 

  • Research, community and course training partners may have access to specific non-public parts of our collected data for the purposes of pursuing a specific research goal that advances a Whitney/Strong program. Any data shared with a non-governmental agency will be governed by an agreement limiting its use to the specified project.

  • Governmental entities.  For some of our programs, we might share data with governmental organizations upon request and within their respective jurisdictions.

  • Commercial entities will not have access to any data beyond what is released to the general public, other than when we partner with them for research purposes as described above. We will not sell data to any entity.

We use your information to communicate with you.  By providing your mobile phone number, you opt in to receiving text messages and/or phone calls from Whitney/Strong.  Message and data rates may apply.  We may use the information we collect for any lawful purpose, such as to:

  • Respond to your requests and inquiries;

  • Send you information about Whitney/Strong, including our events;

  • Send you information about other organizations who share our Mission and Guiding Principles;

  • Share current data, research, and news related to gun violence reduction/prevention;

  • Operate and improve our website;

  • Comply with applicable laws;

  • Identify or remedy potential threats to our site’s security; and

  • Serve any other lawful purpose outlined in this Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.


Data Security

We take reasonable steps to ensure that your information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions. While we endeavor to protect the security and integrity of sensitive Personal Information collected through Whitney/Strong Products and Services, due to the inherent nature of the Internet as an open global communications vehicle, we cannot guarantee that any information, during transmission through the Internet or while stored on our system or otherwise in our care, will be absolutely safe from intrusion by others, such as hackers.  

We do not accept liability for theft, destruction or inadvertent disclosure of your Personal Information.  In addition, other Internet sites or services that may be accessible through a Whitney/Strong affiliated websites have separate data and privacy practices independent of Whitney/Strong and Whitney/Strong disclaims any responsibility or liability for their policies or actions.  

IF YOU ARE LOCATED OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES, YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT THE INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE TO US IS BEING TRANSMITTED TO AND PROCESSED IN THE UNITED STATES AND WILL BE PROTECTED SUBJECT TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY AND UNITED STATES LAWS, WHICH MAY NOT BE AS PROTECTIVE AS THE LAWS IN YOUR COUNTRY. 

Updating Your Information

If you would like to change, update, delete or correct any information that you have provided to us through your use of any Whitney/Strong Products or Services, please send an email to getinfo@whitstrong.org.

Third Party Links, Tools and Information

Our website may include links to certain other websites offered by third party organizations.  We make no promises or guarantees regarding data collection on these linked pages or websites not operated by Whitney/Strong.

Our site may also include tools offered by third parties, including our Donations page, and social media tools or “plug ins” from other website, including social networking and video streaming tools.  If you use these tools or otherwise interact with these third parties, these organizations may collect, use, and/or share such information in accordance with their privacy policies.  With respect to donations, our third party partners may provide your donation information to Whitney/Strong for our use.  All information that we receive from a third party will be held by us in accordance with this Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.

From time to time, we may send you information from other organizations that we think that you might find interesting.  When we share this information, either on our site or through our communications, it will be governed by those organizations’ privacy policies.

Intellectual Property Information

Whitney/Strong hereby grants to you, the right to access and use the website for your own internal use. Except as expressly authorized herein, you may not use, copy, reproduce, transmit, translate, offer for sale, display, perform, distribute, publish, broadcast, circulate, modify, create derivative works of, disseminate, or commercially exploit Whitney/Strong Products and Services without the written consent of Whitney/Strong. You also agree not to use Whitney/Strong Products and Services for any unlawful purpose. 

Whitney/Strong owns copyrights to the original text materials contained on our website.  These text materials may be used, downloaded, reproduced, or reprinted, if this copyright notice appears on all copies and if such use, download, reproduction, or reprint is for noncommercial or personal use only.  These text materials may not be modified in any way.

Copyright to the photographs, graphics, and other media are reserved by Whitney/Strong.  Prior permission to use, download, reproduce, or reprint such media must be obtained from Whitney/Strong regardless of intended use.  Any prior permission for any use may be rescinded at any time and for any reason by Whitney/Strong. 

Absent our prior consent, any use of “Whitney/Strong”, “Whitney Strong, Inc.” “Whitney/Strong Legislative Fund”, our logo, or any text or graphic materials contained on our website to express or imply endorsement, sponsorship, affiliation, or association of the user with or by Whitney/Strong is strictly prohibited.

Disclaimers of Warranty and Limitation of Liability

WHITNEY/STRONG PRODUCTS AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS." WHITNEY/STRONG MAKES NO WARRANTY, GUARANTEE NOR REPRESENTATION OF ANY KIND.
