Mission & Vision
Whitney/Strong is focused on responsible gun ownership and ending gun violence.
This includes:
• Taking a non-partisan approach to legislation in Ohio, Kentucky, and the federal level
• Acting on data to implement educational opportunities
• Funding research to find science-based steps to reverse the pervasiveness of gun violence.
The Whitney/Strong Organization is made up of gun violence survivors, gun owners, and advocates who are concerned about lives lost to all forms of gun violence.
Together, we believe we can create a future free from gun violence.
Our Data-Driven Approach
Education
With a 95% increase in firearm sales in 2020, we are focused on helping ensure that gun owners are safely storing their firearms to prevent accidental death and crime.
Our Save a Life program is focused on firearm safety, including drive-thru gun lock giveaways, suicide prevention, and Stop the Bleed trauma training.
Legislation
We are actively meeting with legislators and advocating for legislation. In Kentucky we are focused on the CARR bill to temporarily separate a person from their firearms in a moment of crisis. We also support the STRONG Ohio bill and comprehensive background checks at the federal level.
Research
50x more scientific articles are published on childhood cancer (5th leading cause of death for adolescents) than on firearm violence (2nd leading cause of death).
With research on gun violence underfunded for decades, we are proud to fund a research project at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to help families of high-risk teens prevent firearm-related injury and death.
Support our Mission & Vision
Through the efforts of Whitney/Strong and its supporters, the organization has distributed 12,000 gun locks, held 75 meetings with lawmakers, filed two gun violence prevention bills and trained more than 200 people on firearm safety and suicide prevention. Please help us continue our fight to end gun violence.
